Mayor’s Day of Concern for the Hungry April 4

Serve Denton made a short presentation to the Denton City Council and members of the Denton ISD school board during a joint meeting over lunch today.

They announced that the second annual Mayor’s Day of Concern for the Hungry will be April 4 in Denton. Similar events have been held in the Seattle-King County area for about 20 years.

For about two weeks prior to the event, from March 25 to April 2, Denton area businesses, including area banks and auto dealers, will help Serve Denton with a food drive to stock five local pantries.

Kacy Strader told city leaders that the spring is a drought-like time for many food pantries, having distributed what is donated during the holidays. Last year, they gathered about 1,400 pounds of food to help restock food pantries.

A limited amount of information is available at servedenton.org and more information will be posted soon, Strader said.
