Neal Smatresk, president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is expected to be named the sole finalist for the University of North Texas presidency today, according to a Las Vegas news channel.
In a short story posted on KLAS-TV’s 8 News NOW website, the station said it learned Smatresk will leave UNLV for UNT.
The UNT Board of Regents will have a special called meeting via telephone today at 2 p.m.
On the agenda for the meeting, there is an executive session to consider “individual personnel matters relating to the University of North Texas presidential search, including the possible naming of one or more finalists, and appropriate action.”
Current UNT President Lane Rawlins became the 15th president of the university in January 2011, and in March announced he would retire by the end of 2013.
According to UNLV’s website, Smatresk joined the university in August 2009.
His biography says he spent 22 years at the University of Texas at Arlington in the department of biology and also served later as the dean of science.
