The vehicle benefit question

Following our series on take-home vehicles, a number of readers have questioned whether the public could learn more about the value of that benefit. Specifically, they have recommended we seek the information reported on the W2 form of public employees who have take-home vehicles. It's important to note, however, that the IRS has already exempted police and fire vehicles. Therefore, no benefits would have been reported for more than 70 percent of the area public vehicles being driven home. However, that doesn't mean it wouldn't be interesting to find out what has been reported for the other 30 percent.
For more information on that IRS determination, you can review Publication 15-B. (If the link doesn't take you to the exact spot, scroll down to "Qualified nonpersonal-use vehicles."

It would also be intresting to find out how often those free police and fire cars are called out from a residence.
