Council member Bruce Hanson pulled the Denton Central Appraisal District's budget request off the consent agenda Thursday, complaining that the agency increased its annual budget by 5 percent even though others in the area were being forced to make cuts. He questioned why CAD staff should get a 5 percent pay increase and a larger longevity increases. He also wondered why the agency didn't do more to address an increase in the health insurance costs, rather than past them on to its contractors. Denton County taxing entities contract with CAD to do property tax appraisals. Each entity pays a pro-rata share of the CAD's annual budget, thus they have the right to review and approve it. The City Council tabled the budget item to the next meeting, requesting more information about the budget and whether any other cities or school districts had denied the budget request.
